Just a question - could it be that she was driven to the emergency room/etc, then her son drove her car back before you got there?
Also, how long did she work with your dog each day - if she had another client right before you, the reason for the wait could have been that she was doing her best to make sure that dog got his lessons down before going on to the next client (it could be the mark of someone really dedicated to her job).

Its all in your head. Mind over matter. Just keep telling yourself that you do not want a smoke. Don’t take smoke breaks. Find something else to do to take your mind off of it. You can always chew normal gum (not the disgusting nicotine stuff), that seems to also help. If it is something you really want to do, you can do it. Believe me, I’ve been there. I quit cold turkey, no aids, two years ago going on three. Don’t beat yourself up if you have a relapse. Keep at it and eventually you will surprise yourself. Good luck!
