The "No Hate" emblem was developed to support the cause of Anonka's Witch
Museum in Caro, Michigan. After years of discriminatory behavior against them,
of instances where police failed to cite people making threats and disrupting
business, Anonka had the nerve to question why a nativity scene was placed on
the Tuscola County Courthouse lawn, assisted by government employees and
illumined by government money. At a Commission Meeting they were insulted,
allegedly lied to and rudely dismissed without even a mention in the original
minutes of that meeting. Attorney Jean Marie Hansen of Bloomfield Hills,
Michigan filed suit in Federal Court regarding the issue of the nativity scene
and to defend the right of a Witch, or any person, to question the involvement
of government in religion.
Since that time, Anonka and her daughter Tammra have been subjected to
religious harassment, a silent boycott, possible racketeering and death threats
by phone and mail. Hate is alive and well in Caro. A group of fundamentalists
distributed foot tall wooden crosses to place in the windows of nearly all of
the businesses lining the main street around Anonka's Museum. It was to
demonstrate that Caro is a "Christian community," but seemed clearly directed
to isolate Anonka in a sea of religious fascism. If you are curious about the
climate of Caro, you need only look at the fact that during one of the Ku Klux
Klan's recent visits to Michigan, that noble Christian organization held a
rally near downtown Caro. Maybe the wooden crosses in the store windows have
greater significance than many of us think. Next there may be a "Caro White
Sheet Sale" in support of "Christian values."
This NO HATE emblem is a way to promote harmony though proclaiming "NO HATE."
The "NO HATE" emblem carries even more significance than just the matter in
Caro. It speaks out against the hatred that so many Witches face everyday
across the United States. It calls for the defense of mothers and father who
have children taken away in custody battles because one parent or another is
pagan. It speaks against the silent, subtle, harmful discrimination that many
Witches must face where they work and live. It demands an end to the
mistreatment of teens who are harassed in school by classmates, teachers and
administrators. We support truly American values by supporting NO HATE towards
any religion, any race, any sex, any gender, any orientation, anyone!
